Furniture Restoration

How It Works
On-site or workshop inspection to record damage, identify original construction and agree a conservation-led plan with a clear scope of work.
Why Choose Furniture Restoration?
Heritage craft, modern care
Four decades of family experience combining hide-glue, veneer techniques and French polishing to conserve original materials and character.
Comprehensive, single-point restoration
From structural timber repairs and veneer grafting to re-finishing and upholstery liaison, we manage the whole restoration so the piece returns in ready-to-use condition.
Domestic focus and discretion
Specialist in household furniture and staircase elements across Surrey, Guildford and Portsmouth — careful scheduling, secure workshop handling and respect for family homes.
What we restore — dining tables, Georgian and Victorian cabinets, veneered commodes, stair balustrades, handrails and bespoke joinery. Work ranges from repairing loose dovetails and stabilising warped frames to replacing damaged veneers and matching historic inlays. Every job starts with a material-led decision: conserve original timber where possible, and only replace elements where repair cannot ensure longevity.
How we work — traditional craft meets careful project management. We use period-appropriate methods such as hide glue, feathering and slip-veneer repairs, and hand-applied shellac or controlled lacquer finishing. Our process includes grain-matching, colour-mixing and hand-sanding to blend repairs invisibly, then finishing with a French polish or protective topcoat selected for the piece and its daily use.
Projects are treated individually — whether it’s a family heirloom from Guildford or a bespoke dining table in Surrey — and returned with documentation of the work carried out and care guidance for future preservation.
